Every spring, Door County, Wisconsin, transforms into a picturesque landscape adorned with delicate cherry blossoms. With over 2,000 acres of cherry orchards, the county offers a stunning display of white and pink blooms that captivate visitors and locals alike. Here's how you can make the most of this enchanting season
First, you’ll want to make plans for visiting Door County. To have the best chances of seeing the blossoms, you might want to start a few days. Typically, blossoms bloom in May. I’ve had great luck with viewing them on or around May 20th. However, weather can be a huge factor. If you’re just making a day trip, check in on local social media groups first to make sure the books are ready. Destination Door County even has a Cherry Blossom report on their website so you know when it’s blossom season (and Cherry season!).
Blossoms usually last 1-2 weeks, so you’ll have to be quick if you don’t want to miss out!
Take a Drive
Once you’re here, get in your car and make your way to Highway 42. There are tons of cherry orchards in Door County, and many are visible from Highway 42. Seaquist Orchards and Wood Orchard Market are right on either sides of 42 in Northern Door. The blossoms will be easy to spot as you drive! Don’t forget to bring a camera!
There are many cherry trees around the county. Please be mindful of these properties. Respect private property and don’t trespass or touch the trees or blossoms. You can search for orchards online to see who’s open and offering cherry products.
If you’re looking to see cherries after the blossoms, visit Door County in mid to late July! You can pick your own cherries or pick up pre- picked cherries at a variety of orchards.
